I.T. C.V |
Here is an overview of my Computing work.
I have created the following web sites:
art-prints.co.uk is a major online art store, retailing reproduction art at competitive prices. I am the technical director of the website and am a partner in the company. The technical design of art-prints.co.uk was a collaboration between Simply James and myself.

I designed and produced this humorous website as a part time, personal project. Since the first pages went online in late 1998, the site has had many visitors, and has generated enough interest for me now to offer T-Shirts and coffee mugs for sale through the site.
I created this simple site, which is an online version of the company's sales documents, using information given to me by the company. Creating this site also included purchasing a domain name. I used photographs of the products provided by the company, and I created the digital version of the corporate logo from a paper-based original myself.

I have been working with Future Protective Coatings limited for a number of years. I purchased the domain name for the company, and have been working with the marketing department on the development of the site. I have created all of the artwork and layouts, and worked closely with the sales director on the content. Currently the company are looking into the development of the web site, and I am still involved the developments.

Other I.T. employment and experience:
I spent my summer working as a computer engineer at London Stansted airport with the I.T. department. I gained a lot of experience with using Microsoft Windows NT4, including domain administration, system configuration and support issues. I worked as part of a team, setting up a new system and observed a large software development project in action. I also learned about the configuration and administration of a TCP/IP based network, both on the local and wide area scale.
I have worked part time at Future Protective Coatings Limited for four years. As a small company, they have no full time I.T. support, so I have been managing all aspects of the company's computer systems. I have built the office computers, set up an office network, complete with firewall protected internet access, and advised on the selection of office applications. |
I have worked independently for a number of clients over the past four years, mainly building and upgrading personal computers. I have provided technical support for a wide range of software applications, and have serviced and upgraded computers. I have worked closely with networking and printing technologies, and have provided support for both. I have gained valuable experience through this work, and have learned a lot about dealing with unexpected problems. I have based my skills around the Microsoft Windows 95 / 98 operating system, but I have also worked with MS DOS, linux, Novell NetWare 3.1, Novell NetWare 4, and Microsoft Windows NT4. |

Outside Computing interests: |
I have constantly developed my personal computer, keeping up with new technologies and gaining valuable knowledge about the workings of a P.C. I have networked my P.C, providing myself internet access, a household local area network, and a great platform for multiplayer games. Using multiplayer games has also allowed me to learn more about Windows and DOS based peer to peer networks, as well as giving me an understanding of basic 3D graphics engines. I have developed an extensive (if a bit silly) personal web site. I have used the development of my own web site as a test bed for skills as I learn them. As part of my own web site, I have used many applications and tools to aid the production of pages, and I have built up a set of applications that I feel I know very thoroughly because of this. I have worked with digital images, using both digital photography and scanned images. Using these images I have created all of the original artwork for my pages. I keep up with the Computing Media, through online newsgroups, e-mail, web sites as well as reading paper-based publications. I follow P.C. and internet technologies closely. |
